History of Athletic
In India, the game of athletics was started during the period of the British Raj. (History of Athletics these Hindi) The game is conducted by the Athletics Federation of India at the national level,
Which was formed in 1946. It began to change in the 21st century when Indians started taking more interest in athletics and better facilities for sports began to be built locally.
Apart from Norman Prichard, who competed in the non-Indian era, no Indian athlete has won an Olympic medal in athletics.

Athletic Federation of India (AFI)
Athletics Federation of India is the apex body for running and managing athletics in India and is affiliated to IAAF, AAA and Indian Olympic Association.
The AFI came into existence in 1946 and the Federation organized the National Championships. Indian Athletics trained National Campers, selected Indian Athletics Teams for various international competitions, including Olympics, Asian Games, CWG, IAAF World Championships, Asian Championships and other international competitions.

- Steeplechase– 3000M.
- Relays- 4x100M, 4x400M.

ATHLETICS RICH HERITAGE
Indian athletics has a rich heritage and a remarkable track record in more than 75 years of its existence. The sport has contributed immensely to winning medals for the Indian contingent at the Asian Games since 1951.

Milkha Singh

Milkha Singh was the first Athlete from India to achieve worldwide success under the nickname “The Flying Sikh”. He won the 200m/400m at the 1958 Asian Games before moving 440 yards to the British Empire and Commonwealth Games. India’s first winner in that competition.
He finished fourth in the 400m at the 1960 Summer Olympics. Decathilit Gurbachan Singh Randhawa won a gold medal at the 1962 Asian Games and finished fifth in the final of the 110m hurdles at the 1964 Olympic Games.
